Ford and Google Team Up
The automotive industry of Ford take a mission on with Google. The goal to have self-driving cars is becoming more real than ever. Google has pioneered the technology of self-driving cars. The car itself has no steering wheel, pedals, brakes, or accelerator. Take almost everything about the car you drive and throw it out the window. The Google car uses software and laser sensor technology that is place on the roof of the car to navigate. The car completely runs on electricity, no need to pump it up just occasionally plug it in. Ford and Google have been in talks about teaming up to take on the automated car industry. In partnership these companies seem to have a plan to tackle the biggest concern that self-driving cars have which is liability.
Ford and Google team up but as one team while still having their own separate industries. This way any lawsuits against the self-driving cars won’t damage Ford and Google themselves. The team up is said to be announced in January of 2016 by Ford during the CES trade show in Las Vegas. The partnership doesn’t seem to be that big of a surprise as the the co-founder of Google had mentioned that Google was looking for a manufacturer to partner with. Making these autonomous cars is an expensive task. One car alone can cost a whopping $150,000.00. Affording one of these on minimum wage is like trying to stick a golf ball through a garden hose, you might as well just apply for a collateral loan and start saving for the rest of your life. The decision to team up would be a wise on their part. This said non disclosure agreement would allow each of the companies to partner up with other industries as well.
Ford and Google themselves have prototyped these cars. Google already has over 1.3million autonomous miles on the road already. Ford just recently announced that they will be testing out their prototypes on the streets of California. Ford hopes to have by next year a fully autonomous Ford Fusion Hybrid. It has been said that the companies hope to reduce the number of driving related deaths with these futuristic cars. The average number of deaths from automobiles just in the U.S. is 33,000 per year. Think these cars could even maybe one day prevent anyone under the influence from driving on the road. The amount of lives that could be saved and the amount of money that could be saved is substantial. Google and Ford want to be the first to start selling these vehicles. Google has come so far already with test drives and Ford soon to be test driving they have already come farther than their competitors. Volvo, Nissan, and other companies have stated that they would not be up and running until the year 2020. Theses companies want to take small steps with the autonomous vehicles to ease society slowly into the idea of driverless cars. Google and Ford are ready to get started. This new technology is going to scare people and intrigue them with the idea that a driverless car is something that
